Old Glory Army Card

As readers of this blog will know, I like Old Glory figures, with a very few exceptions. For those of us in the US (overseas shipping charges being what they are, either way), it is hard to beat their value either. Add prompt, efficient service and a very broad selection, consistent support for the HMGS East conventions, and it's hard to find much fault with them from the consumer's standpoint. If you're in the habit of building armies, like I usually am, the Old Glory Army card makes a good deal nearly irresistible! the card costs you $50 up front (but you get a set of free figures with it worth up to half that amount), and is good for a year.  I got my card last year, and bought all my Prussian Reserve Infantry with it, and a big haul of British Infantry and Artillery crews were picked up at Historicon (which saves shipping charges as well). Before the card runs out later this month, it's time to use one last time for 2013. I'll probably renew it again in 2015 after the Waterloo Project is done.

So, time to put the discount to use and add to the proverbial lead pile!  I need this stuff, though. Really, I do!

New Kingdom Egyptians:

Here's the Egyptian army composition for the two gridded rules sets I've used

Sweet Rules:
Egyptian: 1 normal Commander, 5 units normal Heavy Infantry, 1 unit Sherdan Guard Infantry, 4 units normal Light Infantry, 1 unit normal Heavy Cavalry 3 Sub-Commanders, 4 units Light Chariots. (200 points)

In order to bring my Egyptian army up to full size for Legio Quaternarius, I need to add eight (!) more chariots, 24-32 more spearmen, and 48 more archers!  So that would work out to the following order -

3 PBE-02 Half Armored Chariots (3)   $114
1 PBE-06 Archers  (30)                       $35
1 PBE-08 Sherdan Guards  (30)          $35
1 PBE-10 Nubian Archers  (30)           $35

British Napoleonics

When I finish the (OG, Foundry, and Essex) figures I have on hand, I'll have 2 Light Infantry Regiments and 10 Line  Infantry Regiments, plus 6 Artillery Batteries  (3 each RHA and Foot artillery), 2 Heavy Dragoons, 1 Light Dragoon, and 1 Hussar towards my 2015 Waterloo project.. The troops below will allow that to be built up further:

1 BXI-20 Fusiliers with Bearskins*     (30)      $35
1 BXI-21 British Light Infantry w/Cmd (30)     $35
1 BXI-22 British Rifles in Shako  (30)              $35
1 NXG-24 British Generals Full Dress (6)       $25

* I know the Fusiliers didn't generally wear their bearskins in the field - so what? If His Nibs commandeth, then they shall be worn regardless :-)

Subtotal                                             $349.00

40% Army card discount                           -$139.60

Total                                                  $209.40

Not bad for 180 Infantry, 6 chariots and 6 generals!

After I do these, some Perry Highlanders, Foot Guards and some additional Perry Cavalry will probably complete the Army... then it's on to whatever Dutch-Belgians Joe hasn't already done for Quatytre Bras, and then eventually  Spaniards. Oh, and maybe an obscure Rhine Confederation unit or two! HMM, and my Napoleonic Austrians could really use and up to date unit of Jagers (or two). And so it goes....

  1. Sorry Peter, I've done all the Dutch Belgians for Q-B that were on the filed. However, Chasse's (2nd Division) command needs to get its second brigade done, the one with all the militia! You did say Waterloo, after all!

    1. Oh, I'm counting on you for the bulk of the Dutch Belgians- i am happy to do as few as possible*. I'll post my scaled down OOb for Waterloo later this month.

*Looking at thePerry Belgian Carabinier figure, it seems to me that it would be an almost perfect match for the Gardes D'Honneur of the Royal Italian Army!

  2. Old Glory Army Card: one of the best values in the industry.

When finished, that will be a very large NKE army. Looking forward to seeing that!

    1. I can't think of anything that beast it, at least if you live in the US.

It may be a while until the expansion is done - or not, if I decide I need them for a game!

    1. Yep; the Wagram project expanded my Austrians and French, The Borodino project expanded my Russians and Poles, the Dresden/1813 project expanded my Prussians, so now to raise British for Waterloo. Then Spaniards for the Peninsula! :-)

  5. Seems like a really good idea to get the army card.

    1. It certainly is if you plan to order more than $200 worth of figures in a given year; I probably ordered $900 worth the past 12 months, so the savings was over $350 (they also have some discount deals without the card as well, but it would still be at least another 150 -200 dollars above even optimal use of those.

  7. I like the OG figures. The detail, the variety of poses in each bag, the price, how can you go wrong.

  8. Agreed. Admittedly, on average, the cavalry isn't quite as good as the infantry, and the Napoleonic ordnance is seriously undersized, no not completely perfect. But these are small quibbles for a company that offers very respectable metal figures for the price of plastics!
