Voluntarios de Navarra - Spanish Militia

The latest additions to my Spanish Napoleonic army muster out for a Thanksgiving Day review; hopefully they won't be Turkeys on the battlefield!

The title of the unit comes more from their Adolfo Ramos flag than the uniform. They are in a fairly generic brown uniform with yellow facings. Many other units had blue coats, etc.

The faces have nicely "Spanish" feel to them. These are once again Brigade Games figures, sculpted by the very talented Paul Hicks.

The figures are wearing "Top Hats" and a variety of different blanket rolls, packs, etc.

I used a darker brown for the trousers than the jackets. The close up shots show I was a bit sloppy with the red hat bands; I have corrected that since with some black lining.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it! Among the many things that I am thankful for are the readers and followers of this blog, and my many wargames friends and fellow bloggers, both near and far, and the authors of the rules and books we use, as well as the sculptors, manufacturers, distributors, and everyone else who makes it possible to enjoy our niche hobby in such abundance.

  1. Happy Thanksgiving to you, Peter! I echo your hobby thanksgivings.

Another fine Spanish unit rolls off your painting desk. The rate at which you are mustering Spanish is quite astounding. Keep up the great work!

    1. Thanks, Jon. I hope you have a wonderful day with your family!
I need to have the bulk of the Spanish done by July, so I'll keep cranking them out. I just took advantage of the Brigade Games sale to order some Guerillas, more Cavalry, and more artillery for the Spanish.

    2. I am tempted by Brigade Games' Black Friday sale too although I already hold big piles of 28mm Napoleonics to paint.

BTD is having a Black Friday sale including the rarely on sale cavalry. That will likely get some attention from me.

    3. Yes I saw that too; I will likely pkace at least small order there. Then I have a big order to place with Old Glory while my Army Card discount remains in place. Aye, carumba! :-)

  4. Lovely work on these Peter. The yellow facings on brown uniforms is one of the hardest to do in my mind, but these look great.

    1. Thanks, Lawrence; glad you liked them! The yellow is Delta Ceramcoat "Straw", a great color that isn't a bright, shocking yellow.

    1. Thank you, Mark. As Militia, and Spanish Militia at that, there chances of finding Glory are not very great! :-)

  8. I wish I had something more trenchant to say than, wow, those are really cool! Great sculpts, and the painting brings out the detail.
