Hessian Fusilier Regiment Von Lossberg, American Revolutionary War

The origins of this Regiment date back to 1683.

The uniform had orange lapels, cuffs, and turnbacks. The cloth backing on the Fusilier miters was black; somewhat curiously, the backing of the Grenadier miters of this regiment were orange.

The buttons and metal on the miters were brass.

These are Brigade Games figures with a flag by Flags of War.

The Regiment fought at Long Island, White Plains, and Fort Washington; the bulk of the Regiment was captured at Trenton, but contingents fought at Brandywine Creek and Monmouth Courthouse.

The regiment was renamed Alt Lossberg and became a Musketeer regiment in 1782.

  2. The orange facings really make this unit different, and I think the fusiliers missed a trick with their black mitres. Another fine unit Peter.

    1. Thank you, Lawrence. It does seem and odd choice, especially with the grenadiers with orange, but presumably the Elector had his reasons!

    1. Thanks, Gary; a couple of Grenadier units left and then we will be done with the Hessians.

  4. You have painted some rippers lately Peter, but this lot are even better!
Those brass plates and black backs look really distinguished; like the old JPS colouring of the formula 1 team!
    Best wishes, James

    1. Thanks for the kind words, James. These Hessians do put on a fine show, so perhaps the Kurfurst wasn't so daft when he chose black for the linings of the Fusilier miters instead of the more obvious orange! :-)

  5. Great looking unit. I have a thing for orange, as hopefully folks will be seeing soon. Glad to see all the foreign units and not just British in the AWI.

    1. Thanks, Stokes; as you know, roughly 30% of the Royal forces in North America during the AWI were Germans of various kinds (I will have a couple of Brunswick unit eventually), so an AWI collection without some of them is not complete, at least IMHO! :-)

Speaking of Orange, the King's Orange Rangers are approaching completion on the painting table!
