LANNES Campaign: Set up for Battle #3, 1806

Barry and I had time after game #2 of our LANNES Campaign to do the post game rolls, so we did so. It has only taken me a month top post them, though! The campaign scheme calls for adding 3 new units to each side. I rolled up a much needed 6 lber foot battery and yet ANOTHER 2 Light infantry units. Barry rolled up another Line infantry, a 6 lber foot battery, plus a Dragoon unit to bolster his weak cavalry arm.

After that we rolled for the fate of the existing units. Of my 14 units, 2 were degraded (one of which had no effect as it was already as bad as it could get!), 2 were unchanged, and the remaining 8 went up one for their Defense of Combat die type. Francois Faucon (C-in-C), Fabien LeFerme, and Rene Renard all improved their Leadership Die by one, whilst Simeon Souris' poltroon-ery was evidently noticed by his troops, degrading one Die Type. The newcomer, Henri Hibou, evidently didn't see enough action to impress his troops one way or the other. The D10/D8 unit must be the Invalid Company, I think!

We then moved on to the pregame setup (taken directly from FoB2). This time we forgot to apply the random modifiers to each of the die types, but it's zero sum game anyway. so we won't worry about it. The rolls came out as noted below. This time out I managed to lose all 4 rolls! :

Next, we  rolled for the Warplan 5/5 district the 3rd battle of the Campaign was to take place in. This time we had to go on to the 3rd district, as the first 2 were clearly unsuitable. One was open sea, which would actually work out fine if we had a naval component to the campaign. That is something to consider next time. I t would be easy enough to do a cross walk from Land to Sea Units, maybe decreasing the numbers by 50%..

In any event, that left us with the third of the three districts generated, 5B.22. The  adjacent card in my files is 6B, so I just went with that for the purposes of nearby terrain.

The WarPlan 5/5 Atlas describes district  5B.22 as follows: "Soft, cultivated land. Farm. Fences. River fordable all year. Very bad roads in wet weather".  It was determined that the French will enter from the "West" (edges with the road, river, and hill), while the Russians will enter from the East (fittingly!), the side with the road and 3 small copses of woods. One of my Commands will be delayed a  number of MOVEs to be determined. In the first 2 games, the side so disadvantaged has won!

The nearest village is in 5B.23, ORITANA, which is noted to have a high stone tower. A likely name for this next one might be the Battle of Oritango Downs. in a partial nod to both the nearby village, as well as a certain well known member of The Miniatures Page!

  1. Interesting map. Any chance of the Russians arriving early and forcing the French to breakout from what appears to be a defile in a river bend? That would be a tough operation and easily defended by a token Russian force.

Tango...yep. I get TANGOED on a regular basis. This week, three of my posts got TANGOED on TMP. Emotions are mixed about his activities...

    1. Well, one of the 4 french Commands will be delayed, bur with the entire Western edge of the table to play with. I don't think it is likely that I will opt to deploy ALL my troops in the river bend. even if they would fit!

In all honesty, Armand finds all kind of interesting stuff, and if he posts links my stuff before I do, well, that's how it goes!

    1. Good to have you omn boardasd allways, Michael. Any luck getting the guys out your way interested in some kind of potted campaign framework [to use the British term, not to imply that weed would be a part of the process, although with you guys in California ya never know!] :-)

    2. Still fighting the "potted gamer" mentality and commitment.... Reading your LANNES reports will hopefully dislodge a few. Just need four gamers needed I figure. Thinking maybe 1809 era.... as we have everything painted for that period.

    3. LOL!
I really can spell, but I can't type worth a damn, and now days it's all I do at work for 12 hrs a day. Crazy!

Yeah, four guys would be enough to run with - 2 Austrian, 2 Allied. I of course heartily endorse 1809! You get to use the Italians, maybe the Poles, and all the CoR troops. I still have Eureka Tyrolians to paint, and need to get some more to do the battle(s) of Bergisel!
