IV Romans

The fourth Imperial Roman unit stomps off the painting table...

Operating on the premise that not all Romans wore red, this unit (and the ones that follow) have Green as their unit color.

The Legionaries shields are painted  Valejo Russian "Black-Green", with the bronze, it looks suitably "Imperial" in effect!

The upright Pila should be reasonably durable. These are 28mm Black Tree Designs figures once again .

The magic wash has created a "leopard skin" type effect on the pelt cloaks of the buccinator and signifer!

Legionary re-enactor from a unit with a royal blue base color.

  1. Nice paintwork on some nice looking figures, anyone who's read Asterix and Obelix cartoons knows Roman legions only wore green!

  2. Peter, your Roman legions are on a quick mobilization schedule. Good work!
The BTD Romans look much better painted than the bare lead suggests on the BTD website. Did you see BTD is having another 50% off sale on infantry? Back up the truck.

    1. The Romans will be soon followed by a slew of Palmyrans and Sassanids (Old Glory). I saw the 505 off BTD sale; doesn't include cavalry. Unlike your unaccustomed restraint, I am way over budget for the first half of this year, and thus restraint is ion order at this time!

    2. My "unaccustomed restraint" is surprising even to me! Only one small order since February for me. Must be a record. I may add some infantry for this BTD sale, though...

    1. Thanks, Phil. I love the way the dark green came out on the shields (the tunics are of course much lighter).

  4. You look great in that armour Peter! (ha, ha)
Only two weeks to go and your production line is steaming them out! No drop in quality though, they look great too.

    1. Thanks, James; I need a bit more of a tan if i am going to show that much leg, though! :-)
It does seem likely I will get all of the painting done that is needed for Historicon!
