VI Romans... in the snow!

To close out the year, we have a new unit of (shivering) early Imperial Roman Legionaries.

These fellows were 80% done back in June, when I put them on hold as they were surplus to what I needed for my Historicon games, and time was getting very tight for other troops that were needed.

I finished them off this week, to slip in under the 2017 wire.
Good choice wearing your cloaks in this weather - shades of Lake Trasimene!

The rear rank has their Pila at the ready. Figures by Black Tree Design.

    1. I wanted to take pictures of them today before the end of the year, and it was a nice, overcast day which is perfect for same. However, my usual site was both sow covered as well as receiving light now. So, time to make a liability into an asset! The red and white is certainly seasonal!

  2. The BTD Romans look much better sculpting-wise than I thought based on the BTD website.
Not only do they look cold but lonely too.

    Good work!

    1. Yes I bought some gauls and germans from BTD in a sale Jonathan, they were much better in person.

    2. They are actually quite nice figures, as were the previous 5 units of BTD Romans I did earlier in the year.
They do look like they're on patrol awaiting ambush by some of the local Barbarians!

    1. It's been cold here in Southern New England the past week, struggling to make it out of the teens (Fahrenheit). Low temps next week down to -7 F are in the forecast, which is about as cold as it ever gets around here!

    1. Thanks, Mark. I thought the cloaks were interesting which was why I bought them, and very fitting for their outing in the snow!

  5. Nicely done. I thought you had discovered some of the long lost Companion winter Romans. I may have to check out Black Tree!

    1. Jon of course is the one that alerted me to BTD, and all of the figures I have gotten from them (Assyrians, Egyptians, Numidians, and EIR) have been nice. Unfortunately, they don't do any Roman Cavalry!

    3. Agreed, and with their sales, an excellent value.

  6. They look like nice figures and very nicely done. That snow drift is piled up rather high around them though. If they're not careful they could end up becoming another lost legion.

    1. Thanks, Lawrence. "The Lost Legion" makes me thinks of Tutrledove's books set in Videssos (a semi fantasy analog of the Byzantine empire).
