This is IR #39, whose Inhaber was FML Peter Duka.
In 1809, it composed part of the V Corps under Erzherzog Ludwig.
It fought at Abensburg, but became separated from the main Austrian army which ultimately retreated across the Danube at Regensburg (Ratisbon).
I love these Old Glory "on campaign" figures; note the cooking pots strapped top some of the back packs!
It then fought as part of the wing that retreated across the Isar under Hiller,, seeing action at Landshut.
Still under Hiller, it fought again at Neumarkt and Ebelsberg. After being reunited with the main army, the regiment fought at Aspern and Wagram.
I used Delta ceramcoat "Poppy Orange" for their "Poppy Red" facings.
very nice Peter and that poppy orange is very effective, although I wonder whether all those yellow stripes drove you to distraction?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lawrence. I actually rather enjoyed doing the stripes!
DeleteGreat work! Hungarian trousers seem a sure way to raise stress levels, but thank goodness you at least left off the candy cane flagpole detail! :)
ReplyDeleteThey don't really bother me... now tartan is another subject altogether!
DeleteOh, and if you look really carefully at the first picture, the bamnds (no spirals!) are on the flagpole! :-)
Lovely troops, Peter. Always love seeing Hungarians in blue breeches.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dean; me too. These are probably the last Hungarians I will paint, aside from perhaps another unit of Grenadiers sometime.
DeleteAhhh, yes, the lovely chore of knots on the pants. Nice work, a good addition to those units in white already on your table.
ReplyDeleteI just "suggested" the knots, which works well enough!
DeleteWhat a spirited unit filled with purpose. Great work, lovely troops.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked them; they are a favorite of mine!
DeleteLovely work on these Hungarians! Just that little bit more colourful than their Austrian comrades in arms!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks, Iain. I'd say the Hungarian regiments are a veritable explosion of color myself! :-)
DeleteYet another super looking unit
ReplyDeleteThank you, Gary!
DeleteLook good. I've just finished some Essex Austrian Hussars, but now working on soen Old Glory Austrian Grenz and Dragoons. I think I prefer Old Glory.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I have a unit of the Essex Hussars painted as HR #5 Baron Ott, with their striking scarlet shakos (seen on the blog header). My other Hussars are Minifigs and Foundry, but no Old Glory - in fact, none of my Austrian Cavalry are Old Glory, so I can't really comment on those particular sculpts. I really like the Old Glory Grenz, which I have 2 units of.
DeleteI love these figures- I cannot find them anywhwere on Old Glory websites though- any idea where to buy them or are they no longer manufactured- Stewart
ReplyDeleteI agree, I really like them as well. I found a few more of them when I organized the rest of the collection, enough to make a 3rd unit with some fillers. I also checked the OG website and didn't see them either, but they were still in an original, albeit very old style, OG bag. You might try contacting Russ at Old Glory to enquire about them. If they still have the molds or masters, he might be willing to cast some for you.., or restore them to the catalog, which would be even better!
