This unit of Levy Billmen wears the red and black livery used by the Earl of Northumberland.
Doesn't the fellow in the foreground look like Marty Feldman?
The Earl is better known by his actual name, Henry Percy.
The red and black livery is striking; it reminds me a bit of Swiss in Cantonal colors!
Considering the overlap between that conflict and the WotR, I suppose that is hardly surprising.
Some of these troops could certainly be used as Catholic "Crusaders" for the Hussite Wars as well... and vice versa!
Figures are full of character, great unit.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them!
DeleteMarty Feldman is great, lovely bill unit, especially characterful figures!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks, Iain. As I've said, I have enjoyed painting these more than I expected to!
DeleteHussite Wars? We have not seen that collection out on your gaming table in a very long time.
ReplyDeleteYes, they are due for a trot out again in the next year or two. They are one of my favorite armies for their unique tactics, and the role the Hussites had in anticipating the Reformation. These WotR and HYW figures would serve well as Crusader Infantry as well
DeleteGood solid looking billmen, except maybe that "Eye-gore" figure. Shifty, do not send him out for provisions.
ReplyDeleteMaster?...
DeleteYou are amassing quite a collection here Peter. Great work, and they do look a little Swiss. It is amazing how you can often find a figure who reminds you of someone, be it a friend or personality.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lawrence.
DeleteYes, it definitely happens!
Looking fantastic Peter.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carlo. Still more coming!
DeleteAnother nice looking addition to the WotR collection Peter!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Keith. I'm just finishing another batch, and thinking I might detour to another era briefly before returning to the WotR to finish up the project...
DeleteGreat looking billmen in red and black livery!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dean!
