The 3rd of 4 new Bavarian infantry regiments to muster out, this is I.R. #4, "Salern"
This regiment has yellow facings piped in red, white metal buttons.
The sapper ("Zimmerman") has a red feathery plume and epaulettes, but the elite companies have no epaulettes.
The NCO (pointing) has his cane.
The sappers also carried marker flags in a Bavarian pattern, Lozengy azure and argent.
Another fine Bavarian regiment Peter. Nice work on these Piano Wargame figures.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lawrence! Lucas' next Kickstarter has openwed!
DeleteVery nice again Peter - Salem, eh, I hope their wives and daughters are not up to any spell casting back home!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Keith. No witchcraft here! It really looks like "SALEM" in this font, but it's SALERN. I actually misread it as salem as well, before saying, nah, can't be write. Salern looks a lot like Salem in the source text as well!
DeleteLOL - I tried to enlarge it to check if I was seeing it properly, Peter -AND I had my new super dooper reading glasses on - the trials and tribulations of advancing years, eh?!
DeleteI had to check twice as well, and as I said, I originally had it down as SALEM before deciding it needed a closer look!
DeleteGreat work on these. The four Bavarian units will certainly
ReplyDeleteOok good on the table.
Thank you, Joe!
DeleteVery eye catching and such great models
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gary; they are great models!
DeleteMore great Bavarians Peter, I don't know how you can pain them so quickly!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Chris. In this case, I painted all 4 units largely en masse, so while the posts are coming close together, I probably painted the 4 units over the course of 6 weeks or so.
DeleteAnother excellent looking Bavarian unit, very tempted!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
If you don't have Bavarians yet, I'd get these. :-)
DeleteThey (and all the other sets from the last "Alps Aflame" Kickstarter) can be ordered as part of the new KS, which focuses on France and Austrian in 1809.
Lovely Bavarians in "Cornflower Blue" you've been putting out, Peter!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dean. I went with a little darker shade than the more turquoise color of my earlier (Foundry) Bavarians. Bavarians were the first non French Napoleonics I ever painted, back circa 1973. They were "Der Kriegspieler" figures, IIRC. Roughly a new set of Bavarians every 25 years (The Foundry figures are still very much in use!)
