Peering in to the COVID ball, what can we see for this year?
First a little painting breakdown by Army/Period for the last 2 years:
2021 - 3,890 points
About half Napoleonics and half Ancients, with a few Renaissance/ECW troops thrown in.
2020 - 3,865
About 1/3 Napoleonic, 10% ECW, and over 50% Ancients.
Now on to the plans and projections!
Expenses:
Last year was nearly $3,000; I expect 2022 to be an expensive year as well, with purchases already high in the first month. We'll see if we can hold it under $2500 for 2022.
Painting:
Both 2021 and 2022 were all time high years for painting; I doubt I'll be able to match them for a third year in a row. We'll aim to exceed 2400 points this year. If COVID continues to limit travel, the total could exceed 3,000 points again. Major projects are a moderate sized WoTR force for use with Test of Resolve and planned games at Historicon 2022, completing the expansion of my Mauryan Indian army, all those Wurttemburgers from the Kickstarter, and quite possible some additional Napoleonic Spaniards. I have plenty more Ancients and assorted Napoleonic's to paint any time the spirit moves me as well.
Games:
I managed 26 games last year, the most in a long time. 2 games a month on average is doing quite well - Goals is 24 games in 2022. It would be nice if HMGS would announce the Theme for Historicon 2022, though. The theme isn't usually a big factor in deciding what games to run there, but it definitely has an effect some years!
Blogging:
2021 was a record year at 116 posts here as well. Goal is 100 posts or more for 2022.

There at least 5 different Napoleonic rules sets in the sights - Blogger sets Eagles Cheaper than Brain Cells and 123! Napoleonics, plus a Napoleonic variant(s) for Bloody Big Battles (Jared has been using this last with his students), an updfated Morschauser set, and a playtest of Poquer when Bob Jones releases the next playtest version. .
Verbatim from last year: Several Napoleonic Age of Sail rule sets to try as well - Grand Fleet Actions in the Age of Sail and Form Line of Battle.
Well done on the 2021 achievements Peter and good luck with the 2022 plans. A few years back, I would have been averaging three games per month or even more, but in the last couple of years, this has been severely reduced....that would be my main aim, if I had one....play more actual games in 22!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Keith. Hopefully the pandemic will subside by the Spring, allowing more in person gaming, but it isn't good at all right now. Remote gaming isn't ideal, but it is worth doing, and has the advantage of no travel time, and allowing play with those on different continents!

DeleteNice to have a plan. I will concentrate on painting Napoleonics, AD1666 characters, and pulp era stuff. I hope to play three games a month & utilize the tables at the Newington store.

DeleteI still have a bunch of Austrians to paint, plus odds and ends of Prussians, Russians, British and Poles to do, plus some British to paint as Portuguese line, and then there's the small matter of the Wurttemburger kickstarter. Also some planned additions to the Spanish, especially if I do Ocana in July... a coup[le of infantry units and their Grenadier companies, another cavalry unit or two, and maybe some more Artillery as well.
Peter, 2021 has the look of a very productive year for you. Playing 26 games is a good pace. A pace I rarely accomplished outside of 2021. 116 blog postings show great dedication. Impressive painting totals in both 2020 and 2021 too. Well done on ALL fronts!
ReplyDeleteWith a planned WotR game at Historicon, I suspect your painting efforts may be concentrated there.
I certainly can't complain about 2021 from a hobby standpoint. If I actually work the hours I am supposed to, and travel remains limited, it is possible that 2022 could approach last years numbers. The main projects for the first half of the year are:
Delete1) the expansion of my Indian Army, which is already well under way. The imnfantry may be done by the end of this month, which will just leave some cavalry and Elephants to paint.
2)a bunch of WotR figures to do by July; There will likely be a number of surplus figures which need not be painted until after that.
3) the ECW Scotts; I have three units of Foote primed and ready to go. They (and more Scotts) are needed for some of the later scenarios in the book.
Plenty more to do, and there is always that chance of some new and unanticipated diversion occurring as well! :-)
That's quite an impressive painting output for the past couple of years Peter. I have been meaning to ask someone what points system they use as I notice there seems to be a standard used by most bloggers, but can't remember having seen what it is based upon.

DeleteA very detailed count, Peter. I'm reluctant to do this - particularly when it comes to the expenses. Better left as a "mystery" for me :)
