I was feeling a little Horse...

When I had COVID last month, it started by my feeling hoarse. Once I started to feel better, I set to work on  project HORSE.

I had already done the priming and organization for roughly 80 horses before Historicon.

I realized I needed horses for 2 regiments of Chasseurs a Cheval (Piano), 2 of Dragoons (Piano), 3 regiments of Gardes d'Honneur (Perry), 1 Austrian Hussar (Piano), 1 Austrian Dragoon (Piano), and a number of Austrian command figures (Piano).

Black, Dark Chestnut, Light Chestnut, Dark Bay, Light Bay, Dun, Roan, Palomino, Dapple Grey, Steel Grey, and White horses are all represented!  I used the method set out by "Mr. Tin" well over 20 years ago. Now I need to tackle the riders and the rest of the horse furniture in smaller groups!

In the Flesh

My trusty bottle of Delta Ceramcoat "Medium Flesh" is nearing the bottom, and it seems like they (delta CC)  aren't making any fleshtone colors now (I have a limited amount of their Dark Flesh as well). While I was at The Portal gaming store/space for the October Snappy Nappy event, I picked up several bottles of (absurdly expensive!) Citadel pints in a variety of flesh tones, both to support the store and to try out on some test figures. The opportunity arose when I discovered I needed a few more commander/hero types for my Canaanite forces. I remembered there were some unpainted figures amongst the lot that Ken Baggaley had gifted me a number of years back. Prior to Historicon, they were primed and based, with the painting to take place during odd moments of the convention.

The colors used on the individual figures were (by tunic color):

Green - Ungor Flesh, with a decidedly yellow tone to it

Lt Yellow, Blue  Cadian Fleshtone  a tanned flesh tone.

White - Kislev Flesh a pale flesh tone, suitable for Northern Europeans who don't spend much time in the sun.

Red - Bestigor Flesh, with a decidedly orange cast to it.

These older figures really benefit from black lining, which I did after I got back home.

This shot gives a good comparison of the various hues.

as does this one.

I have a large group of ancient Indians to paint up. Assuming that skin tomes for them might be similar to today's inhabitants, none of these really seem right - perhaps adding some neutral tan/brown to the yellowish Ungor flesh might work?

Regardless, these fellows were ready for the game!

Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics - 2016

With the coming of 2017, it is time for the annual blog retrospective on the year, including stats on painting, expenditures, games played and run, and
No actual pies were harmed in the creation of this post!

Expenses

October 2016
Wizard Kraft Kickstarter  $400
This was way more than I really wanted in terms of product, but it is one that I really believe in, and wanted to see successfully funded, so I supported it heavily with both publicity and funds. I now have a boatload of great terrain pieces on order; I plan to give a substantial portion of that to Jared in support of his Middle School game club.

November 2016
Michael's  (craft paints, micron pens, wooden Castle, Wooden Towers x 2
$36.78
Staples - Really Useful Boxes x 6
$72

December 2016 -  Nil

4th Quarter Total:    508.78

3rd Quarter Total: $631.23

2nd Quarter Total:   $93.12

This exceeded my target of $100/month, but that was almost exclusively due to my support of the Wizard Kraft Kickstarter, as detailed above. For comparison, my total for 2015 was $2,235.28

For comparison, my total for 2015 was 3,160 (not counting terrain, markers, etc). Notably, that was 100% 28mm Napoleonics, chiefly driven by the huge Ligny game at Historicon that year. Almost half of the figures painted that year being Napoleonic Prussians; that category is conspicuous by its absence in 2016! Napoleonics still accounted for over 50% of all the figures painted in 2016, but the Hussite Wars project came in second. That is an essentially complete project now... or so I claim!

Great Lead Pile Census (GLPC):
No additional surveys taken... I plead personal weakness there.
We'll see if we can't survey at least one more sub-location of unpainted lead in 2017!
Some moved out of Part 1 Census stocks this year (Perry and Old Glory HYW figures).
The Russian figures all came from the depths of another sub-location of long term unpainted, lead, however.
The majority of lead purchased in 2016 was painted in 2016 as well.

Games Played 2016

March: Battle of Ainsworth Gorge*, 1799 with Field of Battle, 2nd edition
May: The Winter 1807 Campaign with Snappy Nappy.
July: The Affair at Kisii (Tims WW1 East Arika game at Historicon) with FoB2
September: Montgomery 1644 with For King and Parliament! (ECW rules based upon To the Strongest!, playtest version, solo)
October:  Lavergne and Shurleigh Fields* with FoB2
November: Oritango Downs* with FoB2

* Battles from the LANNES campaign with Barry

Convention Games Run 2016

July: Assyrians vs. Egyptians with To the Strongest!
July: Hussites vs Catholics with TtS!
July: The Great Cavalry Battle of Liebertwolkwitz, 1813, with FoB2
July: The Engagement at Klagenfuirt 1809, with Piquet, Les Grognards 2nd edition.
December:  Austerlitz for Jared's game club, with FoB2

7 games played, 5 games run, averages out to one a month, which is my goal.

Blogging 2016

88 posts, a bit less than 2015 and 2014.
204,552 Page views for the year (but hard to asses due to large numbers from amount by Russian/Ukrainian bots, it seems - probably about 80,000! And The Donald doesn't believe our own intelligence agencies that the Russian Government is involved in hacking on a grand scale? Ha!).
The Blog exceeded 600,000 page views all time as of late December, 2015. Amazing, but see the above! I need to update the links in the Napoleonic Painting guides section again with the posts from the past 4 months.

Publications 2016
None. We might take up a Snappy Nappy campaign booklet(s)... or not!

The Great Lead Pile Census (GLPCTM), Part 1

My reserves of (unpainted)  lead are organized (a very loosely applied term) in various locations, somewhat related to era/manufacturer. The first location surveyed was the Blue Mini drawer case, which is mostly Old Glory Renaissance and Byzantine stuff.
