Preparing for the Revolutionary War project meant new reference materials were needed. With a planned initial emphasis on the Saratoga Campaign, this title was a clear priority.
Most were probably lucky if they had something approaching uniforms!
Light infantry tactics were clearly needed in North America!
As the war progressed, the Continentals became the core of the army.
I'll probably need to get the 2nd volume, too!
I already had volume 1.
I've actually had this volume for almost 30 years - no color plates (I have an online version of Mollo's book), but tons of details. Published in my original hometown - Greenwich, Connecticut!
This is the Robin Hood deck from King's wild The court cards for Spades are Robin, Marian,. and Friar Tuck, Hearts are Alan a Dale, Lady Christina, and King Richard, Diamonds are Sheriff of Nottingham, Prioress of Kirklees, and Prince John, while clubs are Will Scarlet, a Lady in Waiting, and Little John. The designs were inspired b the Bayeux Tapestry.
I saw these Babylon cards, wherupon my Assyrian army demanded decks to compete with the Egyptians.
Court cards certainly are Babylonian/Assyrian in style!
Finally, with the American Revolution project underway, I picked up some inexpensive American themed decks.

ReplyDeleteI figured the Robin hood cards would work fine in a generic Medieval setting, not mention vague notions of a Robin Hood skirmish game...

ReplyDeleteRight now, I think it's 2 Line infantry, 1 Grenadier, 1 Jager, and one cavalry. That might increase in the future...

ReplyDeleteYes, and when you read it you realize that your miniature troops are likely to look a lot more uniform than the real thing even if you try to make them not quite so! :-) You could probably devise almost any uniform combination, and find a unit that wore it. Well, maybe not yellow faced purple, but there was one with purple hunting shirts!
