Regimiento de Infantería de Línea de las Ordenes Militares

The Line Infantry Regiment of The Military Orders, seen it its 1808 uniform: dark blue  turnbacks, cuffs, and shoulder straps, all piped white (I have omitted the piping except on the shoulder straps- just doesn't show much adjacent to the white jackets!). They should have white lapels piped dark blue, but again as that wouldn't show well, I made them solid blue. White metal buttons.

This is the correct "Colonella" standard for this unit.  The drummer wears the dark blue faced red Royal Livery.

The emblem on the flags of the Military Orders Regiment is shown in more detail above (the background should be white). It is composed of the badges of the four chief Military Orders of Spain, dating back to the time of the Reconquista:  the Order of Santiago, the Order of Alcantara, the Order of Montesa, and the Order of Calatrava

These are once again excellent Brigade Games figures sculpted by Paul Hicks.

Some of the figures have blankets over their shoulders once again. Taking inspiration from fellow blogger Laurence at This Life in Lead, I have added a bit of colored stripes to the ends of them.

Their flag is once again by Adolfo Ramos. The sapper figure on the command stand has a shorter version of the colored "bag" or "flamme" hanging down from the back of his bearskin, barely seen here.

  1. Another fine addition, and the dark blue facings look very nice. It is always difficult to know what piping to include or omit, especially when the reality is at this scale it should probably only be a hair's width anyway.

    1. Thanks, Laurence. I usually paint on the piping in 28 mm scale, but here I took a siesta on it!

  2. The dark blue facings look smart. The rate at which you push these Spaniards across your painting desk is astounding.

    Nice job!

    1. Thanks, Jon. Of course I have to have at least one regiment in each facing color, right? :-)
I actually find white uniforms to be the fastest to paint.

    1. Thanks, Iain! I think all of the Spanish facing colors look good with the white jackets and pants!

  7. Wonderful work once again Peter. I do love seeing the Spanish in the field and similar to so many forces through history, they do tend to get far too much "bad press" than their actual performances warrant. Keep them coming.
