The first of the Tirolese rebel units rises in revolt!
This unit of Landsturm was raised with funds provided by Freiherr Freitag, and thus bears his name. It has dark brown jackets, with their hats in shades of green, and their pants in shades of grey.
They are so newly formed that the glue is still drying on their log barriers. :-)
These great figures are 28 mm Eureka, and are provided with an assortment of polearms.
Freiherr Johann's unit is equipped with Halberds.
They have cut off the alpine passes and are attempting to entrap their Bavarian and French foes.
Modern day flag of the Tirol province of Austria.
I'm sure Jon will be thrilled!
ReplyDeleteHe's the Inhaber for this unit! :-)
DeleteI am proud to be the Inhaber for these fine Tyrolean Freedom Fighters! Perhaps I should have laid out additional funds to purchase muskets?
ReplyDeleteNever fear, some Tiroler schutzen are up next! :-)
DeleteA lovely looking unit sir...
ReplyDeleteAll the best. Aly
Thanks, Alastair!
DeleteThe hills are alive with the sound of landsturm! Lovely looking unit with a catchy title!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
They are indeed! Glad you liked the title! :-)
DeleteA splendid unit indeed.
ReplyDeletehere is something about Lederhosen, isn't there?
DeleteBrilliant!
ReplyDeletehank you, Aaaron!
DeleteYet another excellent unit !
ReplyDeleteThanks, Garry! A lot more to come...
DeleteTough looking fellows....nice job! I know you've wanted to do this project for awhile, congrats!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joe. Yes. the first bunch of Tyroleans was purchased as part of a "deal" from Essex, back in the winter of 2012, so almost 7 years ago.
DeleteWonderful and very impressive, lovely hats!
ReplyDeleteMerci, Phil. Yes it's all about Die Hüte! :-)
DeleteLove the personality with this unit. The log barricades a great addition.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jake. The polearms are very long, so to better protect them from breakage, I decided to mount them on Cavalry bases (1.75" square) instead of Infantry bases (1.75" wide by 1" deep). That left a lot of space in front of the figures, so I came up with the (hopefully) happy idea of including felled logs as a barrier on the bases. .
DeleteBeautiful work Peter.
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly, Carlo!
DeleteSuperb unit P!
ReplyDeleteDouble attack for the Tyrolleans.... first push/roll the logs downhill and then charge into the disordered Bavarians. Next pike unit group get boulders?
M
Thanks, Michael. Yes, the "missile" attacks for these polearmed units will likely be boulders. That's what they probably used the polearms for - prying the boulders loose! :-)
DeleteNice job and great hats!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mark. yes, too bad hats went out of style. The city of Danbury, a few miles to our south, was probably the leading manufacturer of hats in the world 100 years ago!If you look at WW2 era photos, almost every man wears a hat!
DeleteThese look great Peter, and another project I'll be following with interest.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lawrence, and happy to have you along for the ride!
