Pike's Point

Tim My friends from the UK, Tim Couper and David Knight, will be running 8 games at Historicon with their newly released Test of Resolve: Hundred Years War rules.

One of them involves a number of units of Scottish Spearmen.

Rummaging about, I found these chaps in the Lead Pile from ? 20 years ago.

They are Essex figures IIRC.

I gave the unit Scottish an Burgundian flags, so with some shuffling, they could represent either.

The Scottish Royal flag was created from an image on the web.

The Burgundian flag is a download from Warflag.

All ready for the trip to Lancaster, if not the House of Lancaster! Packing the car starts tomorrow for Wednesday AM departure...

  2. They may be 20 plus years old but they look great and ready for the table, nice work. Lots of goodies in the Essex catalogue, not to everyone's taste but plenty of choice.

    1. I like Essex; they has not had a US distributor for many years, which is part of why there haven't been many additions to my armies for quite some time from their ranges

    1. Now I really don't recall buying Front Rank figures (same issues with US distributor). Thanks for the correction!

  6. As a Scot myself, I approve of these additions, Peter! Schiltrons is the technical name for Scots pike blocks of this era, and they were very effective, as long as there were no longbowmen on the other side - there normally were, unfortunately!

    1. My lead pile used to be quite small until about 15 years ago. It's still manageable, but much more extensive than when I was younger!

    2. Considering your productivity, if you bought nothing more, how long would you estimate it would take you to paint your way through it? In my case I would estimate two years; three years tops at present productivity. Of course, I might be deceiving myself...
