French 8e Legere

These Foundry figures provide the Light Infantry contingent for the "Division:" of 4 units of Ligne painted earlier this year.

They differ from my standard Legere units in a number of ways.

First, they are in "Campaign Dress" wearing grey trousers and having covered shakos - although the elite companies have the flammes of their colpacks proudly deployed!

A fairly common uniform variation for Legere units was red cuffs piped white with blue cuff flaps, similar to that of the Line regiments, and this unit is painted wearing that variant.

Epaulettes all around, though! With this unit, my 10th and probably last French Division is complete.

    1. Even though "on campaign", they have the marching drill down well!

    1. Elites in colpack are always fun. The Carabiniers probably should have been in Bearskin, and those figures are available, but that wouldn't work well with the Foundry packaging!

  8. Tough looking unit in campaign dress - love the colpacks displayed in full splendor though.

    1. The combination of the campaign attire with the Colpacks is an interesting one for sure!

  9. I never tire of looking at your Foundry figures Peter, and I have a few of these ahead in my painting queue. I'll no doubt have a few spares left over due to the Foundry packaging,

    1. Thanks for the kind words, Lawrence; I enjoy seeing your recent Foundry artworks as well! The Foundry Napoleonic packaging seems at times to be deliberately impractical for almost any conceivable organization, doesn't it? :-)

    1. Thank you, Carlo. The lack of in person gaming and travel has certainly spurred production to record levels the past year or so! I have my first in person game since my October garden game next month, and I have my fingers crossed that Historicon will take place as scheduled in its alternate November time slot this year.

  11. While the légère uniform with hussar boots and all the 'fruit' is lovely, this version and the campaign uniform is excellent for a bit of a change, particularly, as noted by others, the colpacks for the élite companies. You usual top painting too.

    1. Thanks, James; this unit is a bit of a changeup in quite a few ways, but still no mistaking it for anything but Legere!
