Sir William Constable was MP for Knaresborough, and raised a regiment of Horse for the Parliamentary cause in 1644. Still, I have them mounted as "Dutch" style horse.
The motto on the flag is SOIES FERME, "Stand Firm". The flag design is from the BCW Regimental Wiki site.
Sir William's brother in law was none other than Lord Fairfax.
The regiment participated in numerous skirmishes and sieges in 1644 and 1645. The figures are Old Glory.
It fought as well at the decisive battle of Marston Moor in 1644.
I like 'em, Peter! How many horse regiments can you now field?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jon! Probably far more than I need, actually. My original ECW units were based for Bill Protz's rules, as well as Cavaliers and Roundheads, and thus the regiments of Horse usually had 18 - 20 figures. That means each such unit can represent two or three in For King and Parliament.
DeleteFigures that way, enough for 13 to 14 Royalist and 11 to 13 Parliamentarian. My ECW collection is now just a few figures shy of 1,000 total... and now I'm going to add Scots! :-)
A lively bunch of lads ready for action.
ReplyDeletePistols at the ready!
DeleteYes, I like them too. A fine unit.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words; they had their baptism of fire 2 days ago...
DeleteNicely done, nicely presented.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joe!
DeleteThey look good and the flag is very nice too - just shows Old Glory can hold their own with other manufacturers, if you pick the right ranges!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Keith. I have no complaints whatsoever about the Old Glory ECW range. Very broad, the sculpting is good, and, in the US, the price is unmatched. That is even more true now with international shipping charges being so high!
DeleteA fine looking unit for sure and I like the brighter blue coats that make them stand out nicely:)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Steve. I wanted to color to be distinct from the other 2 units of blue coated cavalry that I have. They are wearing Delta Ceramcoat "Azure". the same color I used for the Baden Light Dragoons.
DeleteTHis blue is awesome Peter, handsome unit!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Phil. Their first appearance on the tabletop was, uh... brief.
DeleteAnother eye catching unit with a very nice flag to boot
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gary; the availability of the flag was one of the reasons I chose this unit.
DeleteGreat work Peter, and as others have said the flag came out beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lawrence!
DeleteStunning ECW cavalry, Peter. Love the blue color of the coats.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them, Dean!
DeleteThey look super, Peter!
ReplyDeleteNot a unit of 20 or more like yours!
DeleteFK&P has revitalized my ECW gaming; many of the figures ("new" Minifigs) date from the 1970's, nd saw very little use due to lack of any rules that I liked playing. Since starting even the playtesting for the rules a few years ago, I have added new infantry and cavalry units, have some new artillery to add as well, and courtesy of the scenario book, will be adding a sizeable contingent of Scots as well!
Well now you’ve done it. I’m getting the ECW itch again.
ReplyDeleteHappy to be of service, Neil! :-)
DeleteAs previously related, it was FK&P that revitalized my interest in the period, although the FoB3 period specific rules for the ECW worked very well also.
Great looking cavalry unit! Love the colour, mine end up mostly a medley of tan, brown and buff! Just bought 2 bags of old glory for the ECW today, artillery crews and clubmen, quite a big difference in scale between the 2,the artillery are definitely snall ish 25mm whereas the clubmen are more like current 28mm, funny within one range!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks; I have a bag of the OG Artillery crew but haven't opened them to inspect them as yet.
DeleteLovely blue coats on these Peter!
ReplyDeleteRegards, James
Thank you, James. Glad you like them!
