IR# 19 Alvinczy (Hungarian)

This is IR #19, FM Josef Alvinczy de Berberek.  Their recruitment district was the Fejer kreis, with headquarters in  Stuhlweissenburg in Central Hungary.

I have used Delta Ceramcoat "Carribean Blue" for their sky blue facings; the Hungarian trousers are CC Azure Blue, with the piping and Hungarian knots in CC Straw. Buttons are silver for this regiment.

I love these Old Gloy figures, marching on campaign, The command figures I had were Hungarian, so I did paint conversion to make the rank and files Hungarian as well. Yhey were partb of the "300 Austrians".

In 1809 the unit began the campaign in Italy in the IX Corps commanded by Gyulai. It fought at Sacile, Montebello,  The Piave,  The Tagliamento,  Papa, and Raab.

It was part of the forces under Erzherzog Johann marching on Wagram but arriving too late to effect the outcome of the battle.

These next shots were taken during a long sunny stretch a few weeks ago, not too long after sunrise to minimize shadows.

I try to take all my pictures outdoors on a cloudy day; it makes a big difference in the photo quality.

They were awaiting their flag from Adolfo Ramos.

    1. Well, if I had ordered them as Hungarians, it wouldn't have been an issue. But they came as they were, as part of the "300 Austrians" I bought at Historicon in 2010 or 2011 for $100. So, they werte what they were. These are my favorites out of the lot!

    1. Thank you, Neil. There were circa 15 Hungarian regiments, making them almost 1/4 of the total for line infantry (theoretically, the Hungarian regiments were slightly larger, so probably 1/4 of the strength is right). They are always striking with their blue pants and yellow ornamentation!

    2. The Napoloeonic Hungarian uniform is striking, for sure. Glad this uniform became standard for the whole army in 1859.

  3. Excellent stuff, Peter! The "old" Old Glory figures have a similar pose and it is a good one.

Hope you are staying well during your likely increased workload. New Yorkers will be emigrating out to your area in search of safe harbor, I bet.

    1. Well, I meant the "old" Old Glory 15s!

    2. Thanks, Jon,

You know, that may be what these are. As I scan the Old Glory listing, I don't see these figures thereat all!

  4. Yes, people with weekend homes here are coming to "the country" in droves; we have seen listings of single month rentals for up to 20K! Now, if they woukld just stay the heck home while they are here, instead of acting like they are out on vacation, as some are doing!

The problem is, as expected, and planned for, our own case load is spiking. Indeed, I was asked to start working full time in the hospital, probably starting some time next week. Our hospital is one of the fewer with significant unused capacity, so we have taken the old ICU out of mothballs, and the old Obstetric unit is having the various offices that have occupied it removed, and the rooms readied for use. That should allow us to double our capacity. The plan is to ship non-Covid relatively low acuity cases from Danbury to us in New Milford, and concentrate the Covid cases on dedicated wards there. I am rather unique in still following my own patients in the hospital (and two nursing homes, so I still have that skill set. I figured I would be one of the first asked to temporarily transition to that role, as I am already fully credentialed to do so.

    2. Thanks, Jon. the ones who are really in bad shape are the volunteer ambulance crews. They are pretty much out of personal protective equipment just when they need it most. I had 8 boxes of 100 glove each from closing my own office just over 3 years ago that my employer didn't want for free, so I saved them in the basement. Today they all went to the local ambulance company, along with almost all of the protective equipment from my daughter's veterinary practice office.

    3. That sir is an awesome story to share (ambulance crews). In these dark times I hope everyone comes together and helps as best they can as you have.

As for also going back into the trenches, it simply leaves me speechless. I salute you sir.

      Cheers

    4. Thanks, Kevin. I work for the Hospital/Network medical group now, and by nature of my previous and current work and experience, I am among those best suited to the role. These are our neighbors, friends, etc, and they need us more now than they have in a long time. Others have come out of retirement and offered to work, which is far more inspiring and commendable.

  5. Nicely done Peter. They look suitably eager to get into battle, although they will probably be a bit disappointed when they realise they have missed Wagram.

    1. Thanks, John. They are a favorite of mine as well. With all of the infantry, Cavalry, and command figures added, they will need more Artillery, which were duly primed last week.

  7. Wonderful post Peter. The Austrian army is so spectacular in this period and I cannot think of an army that has so many wonderful facing colours that work so tremendously with white and blue. Great looking figures once again.

    1. Thanks, Carlo; too bad they didn't do reversed colors for their musicians, though! :-)

  10. Hungarians? Surely these should be Danish troops instead?

Seriously nice work. Though it sounds like you won't be getting much time to work on them starting next week.

    Cheers
