I.R. #11, Erzherzog Rainer

Infanterie Regiment #11 was recruited in Bohemia.

It had rose pink facings with pewter buttons (changed to dark blue facings with brass buttons in 1810).

The Inhaber was Michael-Johann, Graf Wallis von Karighmain from 1792-1799, "vacant" 1799 to 1801, and Rainer-Josef-Johann, Erzherzog von Osterreich, from 1801 -1853.

Erzherzog Rainier was a younger brother of Kaiser Franz-Josef; the Hapsburgs were nothing if not prolific!

In 1809, the Regiment formed part of Bellegarde's I Corps.

It fought at Aspern, Wagram, and Znaim.

    1. Thanks, Joe. I must admit, I especially enjoy painting Austrian Line. That's good because I am just making a dent in the "300 Austrians"!

  2. There is something so alluring about the Austrian line regiments facings in this period. Bright Greens, dull browns, shades of grey, red, carmine and crimson. That pink looks sensational against the white.

    1. The many and varied facing colors of the Austrian of this era are abig part of the attraction.

  3. Super unit, as always - very nice. I was intrigued by the name Michael-Johann, Graf Wallis von Karighmain - it seems that, before they were in Austria, the family name was Wallace, and they came from what is now called Carrickmines, outside Dublin. Another in the big catalogue of regiments raised by Irish emigrants.

  6. Another lovely looking Austrian unit! I have at least primed a couple of Austrian units, but it'll be a while before they hit the painting desk!

    1. I really enjoy painting Austrians myself. The uniform is much less intricate then the French one, and the variety of facing colors help avoid snow blindness! :-)

    1. Thanks, Mark! Pink looks good on white, dark green, dark or medium blue, and even brown (some Grenz units).
