Commentary:

Test of Resolve is a set of wargames rules in development by Tim Couper and David Knight in Scotland for battles of  the Wars of the Roses and contemporaneous conflicts. It developed out of the earlier playtests of a WotR  adaptation of Field if battle, 2nd edition. It still uses cards (although in a somewhat different fashion from FoB), but only D12's are used and combat resolution etc is quite different from FoB. The various battles of the Wars of the Roses include many unusual actions, and Tim and David (with some assist from myself and a few others) are testing both the rules and scenarios for most if not all of the battles of the Wars. We've been using Tim's figures (25 mm), and Zooming to Scotland for the games. All of the games are intended to fit on a 6 x 4 foot table, and to play out in 3 hours or less. So far, that has been the case with every game, even with the inherent inefficiencies of gaming by Zoom.

Spending on figures remains minimal as I paint through a substantial chunk of the Lead Pile!

  1. Very admirable restraint on the expense side Peter, while it was very productive on the output side.

    1. Thanks, Lawrence. The big expense was of course the Wizard Kraft terrain, but I am so happy to have that again! I do expect some lead purchases late in Q4 this year.

    1. Without you and Tim, it would have been pathetic, David! :-)

  3. Without the terrain, your spending was a barely a blip on the RADAR screen. You got in some good solo gaming in the quarter. Good job!

    1. Thanks, Jon. I had accumulated enough figures that there was really little excuse to buy more, especially with no games planned that needed new figures. As noted, if the usual end of the year sales appear, I expect to drop some money on those in Q4. However, there's really nothing I have a pressing need for, and still plenty of bare lead left in the pile.

  4. Oh yes, on a good note for gaming, it turned out that my employers misunderstood my intentions in reducing my hours, effective last week. I had intended to cut down from 4.5 hours a week of patient care to 4.0, but theyb interpreted that as cutting down a full day to 3.5 days of patient care. With the unexpected addition of the Clerkship Director job, I am quite content with the results!
