Peter, you are a model of organization. Good to get the prep work in before winter. That is always my plan too but we received five inches of snow overnight accompanied by bone-chilling temperatures. Wintering came early! My winter primering may have to wait a week or two until it warms up.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of Austrians you have in work. With a white undercoat, do you still paint the white bits white or leave them as they lay?
I felt I had to this mass of figures organized to have any hope of making progress with them!
DeleteI paint the coats and pants white, then wash with Delta CC Wedgewood Blue. The belts will then get repainted wit5h pure white further along in the process.
Priming units as Blogging news... Well, I guess after my really usefull boxes article.....Good to see you planning in side activity for the upcoming snow/covid season.
ReplyDeleteThese figures had a LOT of flash on them, definitely not up to usual current OG quality. This was especially true of the bases, so they were a nuisance to prep, glue, and prime! The real point of the post is more the organization, in part as my own reference point. Assuming I finish them, it will bring me up to 43 Austrian Infantry units... out of 61 available in 1809... plus the Grenzer, Grenadiers,Jagers, and Landwehr. That is probably enough. :-)
DeleteI can field the entire Austrian army at Wagram at battalion scale. Of course I could never fit them all on the table at the same time (well, maybe if I left the French off) but it still makes me happy knowing I COULD do it if I had room.
DeleteLOL! It's good to know that there is someone more demented than I am in this regard! Running Wagram again (at Regimental scale, and with the possibility of John arriving) is one of the motivations for this project.
DeleteBravo for leading the way deep along the Danube!
ReplyDeleteWell, 1809 is my favorite Campaign, and the Austrians second only to the French (who have some more infantry of their own to add as well).
DeleteImpressive!
ReplyDeleteI hope to paint at least a few of them by the end of the year...
DeleteWhat a bargain. When completed this will be a massive collection, given that it is already a large one.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest motivation for this insanity is to run Wagram again; hard to believe it has been over 11 years since the first time!
DeleteGood idea, organisation is key in getting lots of units done, good luck with the painting! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mark. I agree that they are likely to get painted sooner when there is a plan!
DeleteAh, Peter, you are a man after my own heart—except that I'd have all 300 on the go at once and get them out the 'completed' end much more slowly!
ReplyDeleteOrganisation, prep. and washing take a while, but are an enjoyable part of the whole (for me).
Regards, James
I'll do up to 90 figures at the same time, but 300 is way over my tolerance, James! :-)
DeleteSmart organisation and it was a great deal! I'm prepping Austrians in helmets for 1809 in the hope that I can spray them before the weather turns, wish me luck!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
I am thinking of doing a bit more of the same with the remaining Macedonians. I love the Austrians in helmets - lots of them already done! Good luck with the timing of the priming (and note the gratuitous rhyming!)
DeleteGo to second Job. Your organisation appeals to the OCD in me 😁.
ReplyDeleteRight, that’s inspired me to get my finger out and prep my AWI Americans.
Excellent; yield to the "Primal Urge!"
DeleteThe 300 sounded a lot but seemed much less when seen in boxes BUT will seem massive when it comes to painting them no doubt :-)
ReplyDeleteyes indeed; figure each box has roughly 50 figures in it.
