The 1st Quarter of 202 had a decidedly Austrian flavor to it here on the blog; the village of Halstadt is pictured above. Not much snow in Southern New England this winter, and then came the Covid-19 onslaught. by March our office visit numbers started declining, and by the second half of the month were doing almost exclusively Telehealth visits, a lot of those having to do with Covid testing. The only bright side of that was less work time and more painting time!

Ah Halstadt! Was there in ‘18, magical place!
ReplyDeleteI've only been to Austria in the summer, and that was WAY back in 1974. A return to Europe is overdue, but sadly not this year with the Covid issues!
DeleteBeautiful photo of Halstad. Mike, I was in that area May 2018 too!
DeleteNice to see your painting rate has continued unabated as I honestly thought you would have been more swamped with work and wouldn't have time to pick up a brush. That picture of Hallstatt is just how I remember it from eighteen years ago, along with a steam-ferry ride across the lake from the train station and a particularly good goulash in a small cafe-restaurant.
ReplyDeleteI actually have MORE time than usual, because while I am busy during my 4 12 hour shifts in a row, the next 4 days I have only an hour or less a day of work to do.
DeleteExcellent progress. I have found that COVID is mostly cutting in to painting time. (I now have to teach from home and the rest of the family is here and bored.)
ReplyDeleteI can see how that could be especially of your commute to work is negligible (like mine is).
DeleteAlways fun to see your accounting, Peter. About $200/month spend doesn't seem too unreasonable. Without a trip to Historicon this year, your hobby expenses may leave a surplus in the bank for more miniatures.
ReplyDeleteThen interesting part is that less than half of that is for lead. I stil,l have plenty of unpainted lead on hand, perhaps 2 years worth. There really isn't too much more i plan on buying (yeah, right, LOL!) at this point EXCEPT an expansion of my existing Indian Army to keep pace with the Macedonians. That will likely be an Old Glory order in Q3 or Q4, and perhaps 42 or so Perry Spanish infantry. Other than that if Murawski does the Baden Hussars they will be added, and the same fro Spanish Cazadores a Caballo... although I think British Light Dragoon figures in the Tarleton helmet might work for those.
DeleteA restrained quarter and it can't all be figures! I was planning on picking up one or two things at Salute but as that hasn't happened it's a good thing I had some figures laid in!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
I'm not sure I'd call over $500 "restrained",but I do expect Q2 to be much lower in expenses (and higher in painting stats).
