Sassanid Persian Javelinmen #1

Next out of the lead pile and into the ranks of the painted is a unit of Old Glory 28mm Javelinmen.

I like the animation of these figures.

The sculpting on their cane shields works well, too.

As usual, minor distinctions allow the unit to become two smaller, 2 stand units if needed.

They'll probably fight like rubbish, although perhaps a cut above the masses of Levy Spearmen.!

  1. I like the figure animation too. The yellow makes the whole stand 'pop!' What exactly is the headgear?

    1. The yellow is a mutual favorite, Delta CC "Straw". I think Stryker has it right, a cloth or knit cap, commonly seen on Sassanid soldiers, especially the lower classes.

    2. Ah, yes; Delta CC Straw is a mutual favorite! I favor the more pastelly colors for ancients having a softer and more subdued shade than the bright colors.

    3. Yes, I agree in general; dyes weren't very intense or light stable back then.

  2. They look like they mean business and I like the 60s style beehive headwear!

    1. Thanks; I think you're right, rather like the kind of tall knit caps sometimes seen on African Americans or Caribbean residents.
